Frequently Asked Questions
What is fibroblasting/plasmalift skin tightening treatment?
The term "Soft Surgery" is used to describe the treatment because it delivers results similar to surgery, with no scalpel, stitches or bandages and minimal downtime. A minimally invasive procedure with much lower risk and at a more affordable price than actual surgery. The Fibroblast/PlasmaLift Skin Tightening method has many advantages over cosmetic surgery, which makes it an increasingly popular treatment. There is no cutting of the skin, which means that there are no stitches required, and clients can return to work much sooner.
What is plasma?
Plasma is the 4th state of matter (Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma). Plasma energy acts like a gas but can in this case forms an electrical arch that sublimates tiny areas of skin tissue, therefore tightening the entire area around wrinkles.
What is a fibroblast?
A fibroblast is a type of cell that synthesizes the extracellular matrix and collagen and plays a critical role in wound healing. Fibroblasts are the most common cells of connective tissue.
How does fibroblasting work?
PlasmaLift Skin Tightening is an innovation in North America but has been used for several years in Europe. The highly accurate device works by an active electrical arc and instantly shrinks the targeted skin. The tissue retraction and tightening give results that are comparable to invasive surgery.
The skin is sublimated in the targeted areas creating small carbon crusts or dots. If you remember from science class, sublimation is the process of turning a solid into a gas. Therefore, Fibroblasting can shrink, tighten and reduce the volume of excess skin without damaging any surrounding tissue. Results are seen immediately, even during treatment. The formed crusts from the plasma charge will fall off within 7 to 10 days. And the area will continue to tighten over the next 12 weeks after activating your fibroblast cells to produce more collagen and elastin cells that give skin its youthful appearance.

What should I expect during the procedure?
Treatment is performed by a certified Fibroblasting/PlasmaLift Technician. We provide a topical anesthetic for 20-30 mins prior to beginning the treatment to aid with any discomfort. The pocedure takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on how large the area being treated is. During the treatment you will feel some heat and minor irritation but virtually very little pain. You will be given aftercare instructions after your treatment to follow for the next 6 weeks.
What is the recovery process like?
The initial healing is 7-10 days for the carbon crusts or dots to shed off on their own. NEVER pick at the crusts as this could cause scarring. You are likely to experience some minor side effects in the first few days after treatment, including redness, itchiness, burning sensation, and sensitivity where the skin is thinner. The side effects will dissipate as the skin heals. Cold compress will help!
Clients with longer healing periods should be advised:
-
clients over 55
-
clients with pre-existing medical conditions that slow healing
-
clients with darker skin tones
-
clients prone to swelling and sensitive skin types
-
overweight clients
-
clients with thin skin
-
clients treated around menstrual cycle

It is essential to restrict the below activities during the healing process to achieve the best results:
-
Absolutely no direct sun exposure for the first 10 days. If you must be in the sun where a hat to cover the treated area and apply sunscreen. The new skin that forms under the crust is new skin so you want to avoid burning or scarring.
-
No tanning beds
-
No extreme physical activity or sweating for 5-7 days. If you must exercise wash treatment area off as soon as possible after physical activity so perspiration does not sit on the skin.
-
No makeup on area for the first 4-5 days. After carbon crusts shed, light makeup can be applied if absolutely necessary, however it is not encouraged during the healing process.
How long does the treatment last?
Every client's skin is different. The effects are permanent; however, your skin will continue its natural aging process. You will see immediate results after the treatment, which will continue to improve over the next 12 weeks. The results of your treatment can be affected by lifestyle factors like age, skin type, sun exposure, alcohol consumption, skincare routine, etc.
How many treatments do I need?
Every case is different, and each client receives a customized treatment plan. Factors we consider when developing a plan are the depth of the wrinkles, skin type, skin elasticity, etc. Usually, one treatment yields results, but some areas may need 2 or 3 treatments to achieve the desired result.
Who is a candidate for fibroblast/plasmalift?
Anyone over the age of 18 that does not meet any of the contraindications listed below can be candidates. Fitzpatrick scale skin tones 1-3 are ideal candidates. Fitzpatrick skin tones 4-5 are not an ideal candidate as these skin types are more prone to hyperpigmentation or scarring. Please refer to the chart below. This is not to say darker skin types cannot receive the treatment, but a patch test would be necessary to make sure hyperpigmentation would not result.

There are a few different types of wrinkles for which this treatment is most effective. Fibroblasting works best for wrinkles in the skin that have lost firmness or elasticity, sagging skin, or skin with a crepe appearance. It also works best on wrinkles that are apparent when the face is relaxed with no facial expressions.
Contraindications

Inflammation in the treatment area

Active herpes simplex (cold sores) if working in the lip area. It is recommended you consult with your medical Doctor and begin taking medication 3 days prior to treatment and 4 days following treatment
-
Pacemaker (due to the electrical arcing)
-

-

-
Melasma
-
Malignancy, Cancer, or Chemotherapy in the past 3 years
